About Hearing Aids

Hearing aids come in many sizes and technology levels. Choosing the right hearing aid is a very individual decision; what may be good for your next-door neighbor, may not be the right fit for you because each hearing loss and ear is unique. Let our experienced staff work with you to find the best solution to your hearing needs.

Hearing aids come in four basic styles:

  • CIC (Completely-in-the-Canal)
  • ITC (In-the-Canal)
  • ITE (In-the-Ear)
  • BTE (Behind-the-Ear)

Many people make an error when assuming that one style of hearing aid is better or more expensive than others; this is not necessarily true. As the saying goes, it's what's inside that counts. Not only do hearing aids come in different styles, they come in different technology levels.

The tiny circuit inside the hearing aid is what makes the hearing aid more expensive or less expensive. Most people today are familiar with the term digital, but what they are not familiar with is what digital means. For those of you who are technophobic, simply, a digital hearing aid may be very basic or it may be capable of frequency specific adjustments, advanced noise handling, and automatic switching.

Hearing Aids Fitting

Hearing loss hinders spoken communication and can be devastating. Identifying your hearing loss is the first step to getting help. For most people, the next step is getting fit for hearing aids. Hearing aids that are properly fitted and used can improve functional listening abilities. In turn, better listening ability enhances the lives and well-being of many people with hearing loss and their families, friends, and co-workers.

To determine the optimum settings for your hearing aids, we use your audiogram, as well as your personal impression of how well you can hear. This adjustment process is carried out using a computer.

When adjusting your hearing aids, we take various measurements to check how well you can hear. Once we teach you how to operate them and instruct you on the energy supply (batteries), you should wear your new hearing aids for a few days in your regular surroundings.

Based upon what you tell us about how well you can hear in your everyday surroundings, we will make any necessary final adjustments to your hearing aids.

Follow-up care

Once your hearing aids have been fitted to your complete satisfaction, we will provide you with detailed information on how they should be maintained. Of course, you can have your hearing aids checked by us at any time. This will ensure that the sound quality remains as good as ever, and will extend the life of your aids.
